When the salmon come into the Michigan tributaries after spawning, it is only to die. They will not be biting any kind of bait! Of course you can buy a bucket of spawn and make little bags out of panty hose to tie on treble hooks. This is legal. However, since they won’t bite, many people in Southern Michigan are out there snagging the fish which is very illegal! So you buy the spawn, make the spawn bags and cast your line. Keep a BIC handy in case a game warden shows up. Then you gotta Bic your line or you’ll lose your car, your fishing gear and your $$$$. It’s a dumb as h*e*l*l law! The fish are going to die and there are hungry families who could use the flesh of the salmon to fill the freezer for winter.

Check your states regulations to see if it is legal:
SNAGGING
is legal in my state, they even sell giant treble hooks with a weight attached just for snagging.
My cousin went a few years back, and caught a couple ice chest full, they were delicious too (he gave some to me)

missingora is absolutely right Spawn is great especially if fished in the mouth of a river.I found that bight colored lures or glow lures work great. They do not feed when in the river but if you put it in front of their face long and often enough their predatory instinct takes over and they hit. As for snagging I don’t feel it is very ethical.GOOD LUCK and KEEP FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
