what fishing line is best to use when fishing for fresh water trout in WV in April?
lonniefoley1018 asked:
Going April 11, 12th, and 13th, never been trout fishing before. Using a 5:1:1 ratio Shimano real and a 6 ft rod…Taking two seperate poles, a light and heavy outfit if needed. Not sure of the line to use. Thanks.

Best bet would be 6 or 8# test with a leader of 4-6 # test respectively and length of 18-20″’s. Hope it helps and “Trout On”, to ya’ ;)… < ' (( ( > <
Note: Berkley’s Vanish Transition Line (Fluorocarbon type) be a good choice for Trout…=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat600394&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat600394&hasJS=true

First, it depends slightly on what size streams and rivers you will be fishing. On your light weight pole I would use 4-6 lbs. test, low vis green (I prefer Stren Original, but mainly just try things out and find what you like best). On the heavier pole I would use 6-8 lbs. test, low vis green mainly because around here the trout can get somewhat larger in the rivers compared to what you might get in the streams. The Low Vis Green allows the line to blend in with the water better. If you are still worried about the trout seeing the line you might want to attach a leader to it; most likely 2 lbs. lighter that what line you are using. Also avoid using swivels or pre-tied hooks; this will spook the trout as well. Mainly though, enjoy yourself and the beauty of West Virginia!
